Caregivers
Immigrate by providing care for children, the elderly or those with medical needs, or work as a live-in caregiver.
As a caregiver, you have options to come to Canada to become a permanent resident or temporarily work under one of the following programs:
- Home Child Care Provider
- Home Support Worker
- Live-in Caregiver
- Caring for Children
- Caring for People with High Medical Needs
- Interim Pathway for Caregivers
Keeping your temporary resident status
You must always have valid temporary resident status while working in Canada. You must apply to
- Extend your work permit before it expires or
- Change its conditions before it expires
If you applied for a new work permit before your current permit expired, you can continue to work under the same conditions as your original work permit while waiting for a decision. This is called “maintained status” (previously known as implied status). Please see below for further details.
