Visit
Whether you are visiting as a student, temporary worker or for the simple purpose of pleasure, foreign nationals require a visitor visa/Temprary Resident Visa (TRV) to visit Canada, except for citizens from the Visa Exempt nations.
Depending on the number of times you want to travel to and from Canada, you may apply for a single-entry visa for a one-time visit, or alternatively a multiple entry visa that allows you to visit and leave Canada as many times as you want, as long as the visa is valid, with each stay capped at a maximum of 6 months. Most visas nowadays tend to be multiple entry, with single entry visas issued only in unique cases.
Who Needs a Visitor Visa?
If you are not a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or citizen of a Visa exempt country, you would require a Tourist Visa to visit the country.
In the event of your permanent resident card expiring, you are not required to apply for a tourist visa; instead, you should apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD)
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
Citizens from the Visa Exempt countries contemplating visiting Canada do not require a tourist visa. Instead, a Valid Electronic Travel Authorization (Eta) would be a mandate.
Visitor Visa Extension (Visitor Record)
Visitor Visas allow you to live in Canada for up to six months at a time. Following the completion of this period, the visitor visas would cease to be valid. You should ideally apply for an extension or Visitor Record at least a month before the expiration date to avoid hassle. A Visitor Record will only be issued if you can demonstrate the reasons for the extension, as well as provide enough documentation and information on the ties to your home country, the purpose of the continued visit, your financial capability, as well as your immigration history in and outside of Canada. During the processing of the extension, you will have implied visitor status in Canada.
Super Visa
Family is the number one priority for almost every country, especially Canada. The Super Visa allows families to reunite for a long time. Those who live in Canada (permanent residents) can apply for a super visa, which allows their parents or grandparents to use their visa for 10 years without renewing it. This visa allows them to stay up to 24 months per stay, instead of 6 months like the visitor visa. Like the visitor visa, individuals are allowed multiple entries until their visa is expired.
